New Documentary Film about Undercliffe Cemetery
Leeds based independent documentary film maker Peter Cook
has been commissioned by ITV Yorkshire to document a year in the life of
Undercliffe Cemetery. Filming was carried out during 2006 and focuses
on the people who visit and use the Cemetery. The film also captures a
period of transition and change for Undercliffe Cemetery Charity, the
voluntary sector agency which manages the Cemetery. The film is
scheduled for transmission in 2 parts on Tuesday 4 and Tuesday 11
September 2007 at 7.30 pm on both evenings. The film will subsequently
be available to buy as a DVD through the charity.
Farewell to Registrar Mrs Ann Clark
Mrs Ann Clark retired as Registrar at Undercliffe
Cemetery at the end of June after more than 20 years in the position.
Warm tributes were paid to Ann at the charity’s Annual General Meeting
in May – she was praised for the dedication, attention to detail and
very personal approach that she brought to the post.
Volunteers Needed
There are
many interesting and varied volunteering opportunities available at
Undercliffe Cemetery, both for individuals who want to volunteer
regularly and for groups of friends/employees looking for a one-off
challenge. At present the project is particularly interested to hear
from anyone who could help with routine grounds maintenance tasks like
grass cutting, strimming, pruning, general tidy up.
Neil is
keen to stress that there is no minimum time commitment for volunteers.
We encourage all support whether people can offer a few hours a week or
several days per week. No previous experience is necessary and all new
volunteers receive training and support. Volunteering at the Cemetery
can allow people to develop new skills, brush up on old skills, work in
the outdoors and help to maintain and develop a unique heritage and
wildlife site in the heart of Bradford.
Anyone who would like further information about the
project or to get involved is urged to contact Neil on 01274 642276, via
email at
neil@undercliffe.org or to call in to The Lodge between 9.00 – 12
noon, Monday to Friday.
May saw the release of a DVD by Barleybrook Films to
compliment the book. To obtain a copy
